Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative including angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to begin their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

With 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might seem out of place, but the events of the third episode show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, striking the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The traitor then settled his debts and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a nasty location.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as key figures in the influential clan could assist the team access areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor swore a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Questers and Strategists groups.

Fans can anticipate finding out which characters will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
